This and That and Thank You Lord, its spring

Since spring break not much has really been going on here....yet it seems like I have been very busy. H (middle daughter) had a choir performance. She was a bit bummed. It was the next to the last choir performance she will do in high school. S ( third daughter) got to go as an alternate to a UIL (drama) competition. Basically to see how it goes so she will know what to do next year. She is very excited!

I'm gearing up to start my new blanket for my niece. I've been impatient because I haven't had time to buy the yarn. The closest ,non-Walmart, store that sales yarn is about 45 minutes away. I'm waiting for a free Saturday to go shop til I'm yarned out. I am just giddy with excitement about starting the Harry Potter blanket.

The girls had a lockdown at school the other day. Get this, a kid robs a convenient store at about 8 am, walks across the highway (though its a highway its still rather small) to the McDonalds, tosses the air pistol he was using in a garbage can, and then proceeds to the high school to finish his day. Yep. I'm guessing he thought he could slip back into school and no one would be the wiser. What I find hysterical(not really) is that they locked the guy in with all the other students and had no clue what they were doing. What if he had had a real gun and taken it with him? All hell could have broken loose.

That takes care of the this and that, now onto thanking God that it is spring!!!! I am TRULY thankful that it is spring. I am not much of a winter person. I used to love winter. Now I just want it to be cold during Christmas break. That's it. No more. Good thing I live in Texas where the winters are not usually very long or cold.
I don't have any blooming flower pics to share but I do have some of a mockingbird. Enjoy!
He was just a sweet little poser
And the he gave me this look

Blanket, Aquarium, and Prom Dresses

Well I finished with the blanket. With plenty of time to spare. It only measures about 39x56, just enough for a lap size.

I am pleased with how it turned out. There are things that could have been better but it is what it is :)

Now onto the aquarium. We had a good time. We arrived early enough so it wasn't very crowded yet. The girls had a good time. It had been far too long since we had visited last. My camera was working right so the pictures really didn't come out. But I did get a few shots. But none really worth posting. I really have got to take a class on digital cameras!!!!

We also hit some shops to find a prom dress. It start out good...then spirits began to lag. She couldn't find what she wanted in the color she wanted in the price I wanted. But in the last store we were going to we found it. It was in kind of a sketchy part of town and it looked a bit run down. But the ladies were wonderful!!! My daughter couldn't find anything and couldn't find anything. So I just grabbed stuff and told her to try them on. She wasn't real pleased with one but she said why not. It was perfect. Her theme is The Great Gatsby and it just fit with it. They gave her arm length gloves to try with it and its to die for. We are all happy campers. She liked dress and I liked the price :) I cant wait to see it all put together.

We are on spring break here. I thought I would do something fun with the girls. Maybe drive them up to Houston to the zoo. Since my oldest lives in Houston it would be perfect! We could pick her up and make a day of it. My Mom said she would go too.Absolutely Fabulous!! All us girls having a great time with the animals. It has been a couple of years since we have been to the zoo. What could go wrong? Did I mention it was spring break? Apparently EVERYONE in Houston decided to go to the zoo yesterday. We never made it. I don't know how long we drove around. We finally just decided to go to the mall and do a little shopping. My oldest was happy for that. She needed a few tops and it's been a while since she had MOM there to buy her anything :) So we hit a few stores, I spent a few dollars and my Mom was a trooper going to all the teenage shops with us.She even hung in there with the girls in Hot Topic. Though the music just about made her want to hit somebody. Screamo isn't her thing :) It was a long but fun day. We were gone about 13 hrs.

One plus was stopping at Buc-ee's. If you don't know what Buc-ee's is, it is a convenience store in Texas. The BEST convenience store ANYWHERE!! You can learn more here . Every time I stop I have to get the red sour balls. They are just my weakness. You should come to Texas just to go to a Buc-ee's!! Though every thing else in Texas is pretty grand too.

So that was our day yesterday. Today we are taking it easy and doing a bit of lite cleaning/laundry around the house. Tomorrow....another adventure awaits. We are going to try and go to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. We'll see how that goes. And then, of course, some more shopping. My middle daughter is going to prom so we are going to look for a dress. We are excited about that :) Mom is coming too...she really is a trooper. She will be 70 in a couple of months and she can hang with the best of us.

So far the first week of Lent is going well. Already it has been quite an emotional week. I've been letting go and trying to really feel and become emotionally invested in this season. I've realized that in the past I have held myself back. Not wanting to fully "go there". This is a very emotional time of year and-shame on me-I guess I just wasn't willing to let myself truly experience it. Its been awhile since I have really immersed myself in the season. Alright, that said.....

I am coming along on my niece's blanket. Almost done. I know, I know. I have until Saturday to be completely finished. Almost there. I have one half to do and then the edging. In about an hour I'm going to put a movie in and hit it hard and heavy. Hopefully I will be finished-or nearly so-by the time I go to bed.

This is it so far

I've got quite a few ends to take care of too...that's the part I hate most! Those dreadful ends.

If you all are on spring break like we are here...I hope you have a fun(sun) filled week.( I'm really needing some sun!!!!)

Ash Wednesday. Yep, today is the beginning of Lent. The biggest time of the Church year. Lent and then Easter. As Father said this morning, its not just about giving up candy or soda or chocolate. Its about giving up what is keeping you from Christ. We all have those blocks in our lives. Whether we realize it or not. We may have a great prayer life but judge people. We may have treat others well but have a poor prayer life. Whatever it may be, something is in the way for us to become closer to Christ. Our goal for Lent is to find it and push it aside. To truly sacrifice. To give unreservedly back to the one you gave all for us. God Bless you on your journey through this remarkable time of year.

Well, well, well. March definitely is not acting spring-like at the moment. WAY too cold for me. Here on the Gulf Coast of Texas it's supposed to be almost hot. I really, really, really need some spring weather. I need sun and warmth. This will not do. Oh, no. This will definitely not do. I cant even wear the new pair of sandals that just came in the mail. Patience is a virtue. I will do my best to buck up and bide my time till the glorious Mr. Sun appears. Until then, I will be thankful I'm not farther north and dealing with yucky snow. God Bless all those who are!

Spent the day with my middle daughter at the mall today. The thing that sticks out most about our adventures today is....Why do women/girls bring the men in their lives with them to Victoria Secrect ? My daughter and I (and she is 18) really feel uncomfortable when there are men or worse yet young, early teen boys lurking about the panties. Most of the men we saw there were really bored/uncomfortable themselves. The other ones were really just creepy. Buying intimates is a sacred, personal thing for some women. I know I don't want MY husband hanging around when I'm buying a bright chartreuse mega-push-up bra. And I certainly don't want him around looking at other women buying their skimpy thongs...really don't want his mind going where it shouldn't.
I guess some people would tell me that if it bothers me that much then I shouldn't shop there. And they are right. I guess I'll just stick with the intimates section at your basic, run of the mill department store.
